Scrap Room Tour // sweetgirldesigns

House guests are coming so you all know what that means! Must hide the mess that is usually my scrap area!

I’m generally a pretty tidy person (just don’t look in my closet) but when I do Project Life or any other crafty project I make a big time mess!  There is stuff everywhere.  I don’t know how or why this happens but it does.  I generally can leave my supplies out indefinitely but my daughter is coming to an age where if she knows she can’t have it, she will find it and destroy!  So alas I fear my messy days are over.

I thought I’d show you my set up since it’s nice and clean!

It’s not perfect but it works for me.  I definitely could be more organized. I thought the Alex desk and drawers from Ikea would allow me to have a spot for everything – I do know where everything is – but it’s kind of all thrown in there.

I am in the basement so it’s a bit dark at times.  I’m hoping to get another craft light pretty soon.

I store my washi by color in the organizer on the left. I have some ribbon and twine in there as well.  The other organizer on the right has a ton of different supplies – enamel dots, roller stamps, stamp pads, washi samples, my Fuse and my pencil case that is filled with my essential supplies.

This pencil case is just from the Dollar Store.  It’s the perfect size to store my scissors, tape runner, pens, corner rounder, my go to roller stamp and stamp pad and of course my beloved Glossy Accents.  It does zip up! Just everything is crammed in there at the moment.

I do preplan my layouts and use my Canon Selphy to print. Planning out what page protector I’m using helps me to print only the photos I know I’ll use.  I occasionally change my mind because the photo doesn’t fit or the layout is too photo heavy and  doesn’t allow for enough journaling.  I do my planning in a simple notebook – nothing fancy.  I go through my photos for the week and slot them into a pocket. Then I check them off when I have them printed.  If I circle them that’s usually because they are on my DSLR or I’m waiting for the photo from a friend or family member.

Lastly I thought I’d share my bowls of embellishments. I’ve recently upgraded to a few more bowls.  I originally had red and pink together and blue and tourquoise together but it was getting out of control!

I also have a small bowl where I keep embellishments I want to or think I’ll use on my current spread.

I hope that gives you an idea of how I organize and use my supplies.  I still have a long ways to go.  One day I’ll organize those drawers and sort my cards by color!

Design Team Announcement & Brand New Baby Album // sweetgirldesigns

Hello! Can you believe it’s July already!?

June was extremely exciting and busy for me as I was chosen to be on the Laurel Lane Designs design team!

For quite awhile I’ve been thinking about how amazing it would be to be part of a design team.  Not that I need validation or anything but it’s always nice to be recognized and know that people are inspired by what you create.  In being chosen for a design team I received that validation and was so excited!  Being part of a design team also gives me a bit of a creative challenge in using new products! Which is just a bonus!

I found out the first week of June but wasn’t able to tell anyone until mid month.  It was torture!  Since then I’ve created three Project Life layouts using a few of the cards.  The card kits offered are so versatile using mainly black and white designs and brush script.  They are gorgeous!  You can find her creations on Etsy at Laurel Lane Designs.

I absolutely fell in love with her Baby Monthly Update Collection that includes 6×8 papers to document monthly photos and milestones in addition to her baby specific Project Life Cards.  Even though I do weekly Project Life to document my daughter’s first year, I thought creating a mini album would be a more manageable viewing size for guests. As I’m sure two huge 12×12 albums would be a bit overwhelming to view in one sitting!

Today I worked on setting up my album and doing a bit of preplanning of cards and photos.  I am really excited to work on this album and share layouts with you all.

Project life// week 25/2015

Yesterday was Canada Day and while it took me all day to finish my layout, I was happy to spend the holiday working on Project Life.

The layout for the week was really fun to work on. I started choosing my cards and colors based on the beautiful dandelion card from The Teal Lime Press in the Dreamer kit. As soon as I saw this card kit my eyes immediately went to the dandelion card that I used and the fun plaid one (which I also used) and I built my layout around them.

(Just to note- The Teal Lime Press is having a 50% off flash sale until July 4 in the etsy store! You might want to check it out if you love this kit like I do! Use code: TLP50FLASH)

I’m just loving the clean look to this layout!
Another fun thing is that I bought a typewriter off of kijiji on Tuesday. I really don’t like my writing. I tend to write really fast and then in just looks messy. But i find that if I go slow then I can’t get the words to come out right. So I plan to use it for any journaling or on labels. I love the look of it. As I was using it though I think I need to practice with it a bit as I kept typing quickly and making mistakes. Oh well! It’s a learning curve, and I’m just happy to have one.

Left side:

And some details of this side:

Dandelion card! (The Teal Lime Press – TLP- Dreamer kit). Chase adventure card and adventure embellishment are from studio calico.

Plaid card is TLP, vellum heart is from 7 Paper Baxter Collection, and the foil sticker is also from 7 Paper. The right card is from an add on card kit from Studio Calico, the acrylic is from Paper Camellia’s June kit (embellishments)
This is the top of my stack of pictures from Fathers Day that I fused. I wanted it kept very simple. from the Project Life Studio Calico Carolina Moon add on cards.

My most favorite card this layout! I love the colors, how it fits with the picture, the stamping. It just all worked perfectly! The cards are Studio Calico Galileo, #love is from Color Cast Designs, stamps are Studio Calico.

What are you working on this week?

#DITL/ June 2015

a day in the life…. When I did the Ali Edwards day in the life in May I had so much fun, that I decided to do on every month. So I randomly picked June 23. And when I say randomly I mean I woke up that day and said- today I’ll take lots of pictures and have my day in the life today!

For this mini album I use a 6×8 Becky Higgins Faux Leather that I got from Michaels when they were on sale last year and I stock piled them 😃

Cards for this are mainly ones from Stampin Up’s Sale-a-Bration promo earlier this year. Alphas are from studio calico and the wood veneer is from random
The wood veneer on this page is from Color Cast Designs. I love her foodie set! I may need another one soon. I didn’t have a currently card that I could find so I made my own. My thought is that I’ll include a currently card for each month. The stamp set is from studio calico- but not sure which month.  Stamps are studio calico and card is Stampin Up!. I used Stazon and whisper white Stampin up inks to stamp with on the pictures.
On the menu veneer is a Color Cast designs and alpha is Studio Calico.   Top right 3×4 card is from The Teal Lime Press. It’s a digital card and I love it! It’s like a currently for weather. The washi tape on the Yello Stampin Up card is from close to my Heart.

The acrylics are from Paper Camellia and the snipets are from The Teal Lime Press Yellow Sun kit. The washi is from freckled Fawn.  I love these cute little bunny cards! And they are from the Studio Calico Galileo PL kit.

Thanks for checking this blog post out!

Project life// week 24/2015

This week’s project life spread was my first using The Teal Lime Press’ digital cards. I was really excited to use them as I love the colors and the designs.

Above is the full 2 page layout. I used Design Q on the left side and Design A on the right side. I had a question as to why I mainly use Design A, and so wanted to answer it here. When I started PL in 2014 I went a “little” overboard with buying… and one of those purchases was a variety pack of page protectors. The one with 10 of 6 different layouts. And I still have 1/2 of that variety pack left. I found that there were quite a few I just didn’t use very often. And when I print pictures I find I use either the 4×6 landscape or do 2 on a 4×6, so the design A works best for me for that. I am still trying to use up the ones that I have left, but I really have to plan when I use a non- design A layout. And this year my goal was to streamline as best I could for consistency and using mainly Design A was how I chose to do that.  BUT- that being said- I really like how the Design Q looks and am really liking the look of the 4×4 cards. SO I may be using this one more in the future.

Close up of left side.

“hello” is from Color Cast Designs in the Caribbean. If I haven’t mentioned it before… I LOVE Color Cast Designs! The label is one that I printed off a while ago (found on my pinterest board under printables) and the washi is from Close to my Heart. I love, love, love the simplicity of this card. And the stripes… I’m addicted to stripes!

I used the paintpaperstudio app to create the “nothing can beat this #teatime” writing on the card. Its  free app with paid in app purchases. This is from the set by Kellie Winnell of Give A Girl A Blog and Kellie Stamps.

My most favorite card of this page is this 4×4. I love the card (TLP) and it took me a while to find the perfect placement for it in my layout this week. But I am so happy with it and how it turned out! The family is a wood veneer I colored black with my stazon ink pad and the enamel dots are from Close to my Heart. The document label is a sticker from my May Gossamer Blue PL kit.

On my June Studio Calico order I added another Cirque PL kit. I really liked the embellishments in this kit, and it was $10 so I thought, why not? I wanted to use this wood veneer, and played with a few ways of using it. In the end I colored it with 3 different ink pads from Stampin’ Up! (pear pizazz, pool party and pistachio parade) and then found some random stamps from my stash and stamped them with Stazon. Again, the card is from TLP in the Lemon Yellow Sun kit.

Close up of right side

My title card is from TLP and I used the black alpha stickers from Studio Calico’s Carolina Moon PL kit, white alpha stickers from Studio Calico’s Galileo PL kit for the numbers and then I outlined them. The “sun”, “fun” and hearts are from Paper Camellia.

This card is 2 3×4’s attached. (Both from the Lemon Yellow Sun TLP kit). I love the right circle card, and also had trouble finding the best spot for it, but I knew I wanted to use one of my Color Cast Designs wood veneer with it. I finally settled on attaching it to the striped card as both the 2 do actually go together. The enamel dots are again from Close to my Heart.

And, if you want to see how this weeks spread came together, the process video is below. I hope that you will subscribe to my You Tube channel as well!

Happy Scrapping!

I am very excited to announce that I am part of The Teal Lime Press (TLP) creative team! I am just getting everything ready to go and will have something for the end of this week to share with you as my first creative team sharing.

I will be posting my designs for TLP here and on Instagram, and will also be including the designs in my process videos on You Tube. You can find TLP on Etsy and you can use my code TaraR to receive 20% off your order.

This is the first kit I will be designing with, Lemon Yellow Sun and I just LOVE the colors! I am a big fan of black/white base and adding color  and I am able to do that with this kit. And that black and white stripe? Swoon! I am in love! This is going to be the start of my summer album.Lemon Yellow Sun No. 2 Snippets and Diecuts_Layout_Smaller

I also love labels, and as I was cutting everything out today I kept thinking of the pictures I would need to take to use these labels 🙂 The “swim ice cream repeat” is going to be the mantra of my kids and I this summer I’m pretty sure.

Thanks for reading! Happy Scrapping!

Project life// week 23/2015

Hi everyone!

I have week 23 (last week) ready to go, and I have a process video for you! And this is a complete start to finish video this week. I finally figured out how to use my phones recorder to properly take videos… the WHOLE time! What a thing to learn 🙂 Just to note though- I have a hard time talking in my videos- so this one is just the sped up process to music. (Feel free to turn the sound off!) The reason why? I tend to watch videos while I’m feeding my littlest, so I don’t have the sound on at night; I just watch. Next week I will do a talking one as I know some like that.

Last week was really busy for my family and me. I feel like I have forgotten a bunch of stuff, even though I added a 6×12 page front and back in the layout. So I did Sunday to Thursday on one and then when you flip it over its Friday and Saturday. I went to visit my friend Kristie (you know her as Sweet Girl Designs) and so we had a pretty busy day.

Im not sure what is with me lately. I don’t really like yellow very much, but it seems to have been my go to color this week and last week I used it as my POP of color. And when you watch the video (below) you see that yellow was the only color I had at the beginning, and I changed it to add in some seafoam/aqua. Who knows, maybe the color is growing on me?! Above is the Sunday to Thursday part of the layout. I was very happy with how my pictures turned out this week! And I just love that title card. Its from the Studio Calico Galileo PL kit. The other one from that kit is the top right, Boat Fun card. IMG_4547 The other 3 cards are from studio calico as well. The middle and right ones are from the Cirque kit (from Feb) and I’m not sure what the left one is from. The striped heart over lay is from one of the Stampin Up! PL kits from last year. Im not sure what the kit is called anymore. Of course I used my FAVORITE Baxter collection vellum hearts (swoon… still the best!) and then some labels I had cut out last week and the Crate Paper labels. The white “23” on the summer title card is from the SC PL kit and the black “wk” is from the SC Scrapbook kit for June. They are vinyl so they were really hard to place! The little adventure ephemera is also from the Galileo kits for June.IMG_4545

And then on the Boat Fun card I used more from the SC kits from June. The U R Perfect card is from the Cirque kit as well as the heart and the label is from a printable you can find on my pinterest page. The “be silly” flair is one that I found on If you haven’t visited this site and you love flair badges you need to check it out as they have a bunch of guest designers who design their own flair collection and they make them. And they are a really good price as you can just buy 1 if you want.

I again used the seafoam/aqua and yellow colors. And lots of pictures for this one. I wanted to keep the pictures free of too much “stuff” so chose to do more stamping on them and used a few stickers. IMG_4551My absolute most favorite card this layout is the road trip one. All I had planned when I picked the 4×6 card from my Galileo paper pack was that I was going to use a geo tag veneer. That was all I was originally going to do. Then I thought I would maybe put Calgary… and then in needed some color… and then some more color… and then my car veneer. But I just love how it turned out. I’m also in love with the bottom 4×4. I have been wanting to use this bliss card since last week- its been making it into my beginning layouts and then it just hasn’t been right. Until now! I finally found the place for it that I’m happy. I also like to do a lot of journaling, as this is a documentation of our life, but didn’t want to take up the room for it. So I find the compromise is to make a little tag and stick the journaling behind another card. This layout I put it behind the yellow and white 4×4. And that last 4×3 is from the Amy Tangerine plus one mini kit. I colored the potty people with Stampin Up! inks (and as you can see the ink wasn’t completely dry when I adhered it…. yeah… I wasn’t real happy). So- lesson is to be patient!

I hope you enjoyed this layout and have a few minutes to watch the video! You can find more process videos on my YouTube Channel! Subscribe so you don’t miss any.

Happy scrapping!
